Dr. Chen is double board-certified in Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology.
Dr. Chen’s passion for pain management began after witnessing her father suffer greatly from chronic pain. She earned her M.D. from Norman Bethune Medical School in China. After completing her anesthesia residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Ohio, she pursued further specialized training through a Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Chen is a dedicated stem cell scientist. She holds a Ph.D. in Orthopedic Surgery from Queen’s University, UK, focusing on mesenchymal stem cell regeneration for nonunion fractures. She furthered her expertise with a postdoctoral research fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston, concentrating on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Dr. Chen has authored more than 10 research articles and maintains a strong interest in exploring stem cell therapy as an innovative and alternative approach to pain relief.
Paul Schwartz, PA-C, LAc, earned his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Creative Writing from the University of Arizona. Following graduation, he lived in Taipei, Taiwan, for five years before relocating with his family to Austin, Texas. There, he attended AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine, completing a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Later, he and his partners founded the Neighborhood Acupuncture Project, the first community-style acupuncture clinic in Texas. After moving to Seattle in 2012, he pursued a new direction in healthcare and, in 2018, graduated from the University of Washington’s Physician Assistant program (MEDEX Northwest). His long-term goal is to practice integrative medicine, combining the strengths of traditional healing systems with modern biomedical approaches. He is deeply committed to the belief that blending these disciplines offers the most comprehensive path to patient care and healing.
Vanessa Hooper, LMHC, is a licensed trauma-informed psychotherapist. She identifies as biracial, born and raised in Seattle by her Mexican family. Before working in private practice, Vanessa gained extensive clinical experience at various Washington locations working with incarcerated youth, houseless elders and individuals with a history of severe substance abuse and childhood trauma.
Vanessa has also spent extensive time on research projects related to the effects of Intergenerational Trauma, mixed identity issues, and vicarious trauma. She is motivated by the collaborative impact psychedelics and therapy can provide for healing generational wounds, helping clients find meaning and purpose. Vanessa comes from a lineage of curanderas, considered spiritual healers, and she brings together diverse aspects of healing to help clients lead more fulfilling lives.
